I didn't know very much about the Lockerbie crash of PanAm 103 before I read this book, other than what I heard on the news: Megrahi was convicted of bombing the plane, it blew up over Lockerbie, Scotland, and that's about it. Turns out much of what I thought I knew isn't supported by the facts. I have to confess, I had some trouble creating a picture in my mind of the movements of all the baggage, despite the detailed descriptions and appendices dealing with such. Part of this might be more clear in a paperback (I read the ebook version) and part of it I might have to have diagrammed out on a huge whiteboard in order to visualize it. However, I have little doubt that the author can see it and has explored every avenue of how each identifiable piece came to be where it was, precisely, and what that means. The conclusion is rather shocking, despite the perpetrator being left unidentified. If you're curious about where the luggage in which the bomb rested was located aboard the aircraft, where it could have come from, and what it did to the plane, this is the book for you. Be prepared to put your thinking cap on.

As one of the many who have always been unconvinced by the whole Megrahi story, this book comes as a convincing vindication of the doubts raised by Private Eye's Flight from Justice. The massive weight of evidence and detail totally demolishes the prosecution's case, making it more extraordinary than ever that such a conviction could ever have been achieved. Essential reading for all those whose knee-jerk outrage at Megrahi's eventual release was based on blind faith in a system which Kerr argues conclusively was neither corrupt nor conspiratorial, just spectacularly incompetent.
The curious facts surrounding of the mysterious printed circuit fragment leave a tantalising mystery unsolved but the appalling miscarriage of justice is indeed adequately and convincingly explained by stupidity.
